Timeless Magazine Proposal

Proposal

I plan to create a hybrid genre magazine combining music and fashion by February 14th 2020. The magazine will include a front cover, a minimum of 2 double page spreads and also a minimum of 2 articles. It is dominantly aimed at women aged 15-26 with a strong interest in alternative music and vintage style of fashion, who aspire to be themselves and embrace the popular 80s styles. The title of the magazine is ‘Timeless’ and will be directed at a C2DE audience demographic, as it will advertise products which are affordable for the majority of women around this age and as it is mainly aimed at a young audience most won’t have a lot of disposable income.

1.Introduction

The purpose of the ‘Timeless’ magazine is to embrace the reappearing genre of alternative music which is increasingly enjoyed by the targeted audience, whilst discussing fashion which reflects the 80s vintage style to complement the alternative genre. The all-female feature helps to present the female empowerment factor I wanted to incorporate as the music industry is exceptionally challenging for women to break into. The main problem that I faced whilst creating my magazine was developing and finding set ideas for my articles that also reflected the images I had chosen. To solve the problem, I read and analysed articles from other popular but also independent magazines to grasp an idea of the language and structure they used. The magazine ‘Paper’ offered me the most inspiration for my image and article ideas.

2. Motivation

The articles were the most challenging aspect of the creation process of my magazine as they are the aspect that bring the images and the genre together. They provide a story to the images and the reasoning behind the star feature of the magazine. The main aspect that fashion and music magazines offer is that they provide an entertainment value to people’s everyday life and allow readers to discover new music related to their favourite artists as well as discover new artists and fashion related to them. In order to give my magazine a unique selling point I decided to combine and discuss the two genres of fashion and music which also allowed me to go further in depth in my articles. I wanted to appeal to a vast audience and unite the younger audience with the older generations love for this genre of music and fashion. This prompted the idea for the title of my magazine as the genre and fashion I’m focusing on is reappearing which displays how ‘timeless’ and regenerating its popularity.

3. Timeline

Step 1 – Pre-production planning e.g. sourcing personnel and resources, preparing budgets, schedules, health and safety documentation, legal/ethical considerations and a risk assessment.

Step 2 – Studio and location photoshoots. Create a contact sheet from all my photoshoots. Make a final decision on what images I will use for my front cover, double pages and advertisement. Complete the editing of them using adobe photoshop cs6.

Step 3 – I will write my articles and start putting my magazine together on adobe Indesign cs6.

Step 4 – I will complete my production diary and collect feedback from other students and then apply their feedback to my final product
